Tecmo Super Bowl

Released in 1991, Tecmo Super Bowl for the Nintendo Enternainment System (NES) revolutionized sports video games as we knew them. Featuring full 11 on 11 football, real NFL rosters, and a customizable playbook, it gave gamers the freedom and authenticity no other football game had ever given them before. Subsequent versions of the game were released for other consoles including the SNES, Sega Genesis, and Playstation, but the NES version is considered the best by most fans of the series.

Over the past decade and thanks to the PC era, Tecmo Super Bowl has been modified countless times and in many different ways. A “file dump” of Tecmo Super Bowl, also known as a ROM, is now commonplace on the internet and exists in many different forms. There are nowROMs featuring updated NFL rosters and updated NCAA rosters, along with specific and unique ratings for each player just like in the original game.

Also there have been several gameplay modifications, such as removing “grappling” (tapping the A button to win a battle with a defensive player) and using hitting power instead, making the statistic Pass Accuracy independent from Pass Control, and allowing the condition of every player to change after each play instead of every quarter. There have also been graphic hacks including custom uniforms, helmets, and logos.

But the most important update was completed a couple of years ago….
